Symposium
The Leadership and Multifaith Program (LAMP) held its fourth annual symposium, entitled “Religious & Scientific Perspectives on the Future of Life” on February 17, 2018, at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. This full-day event was organized in partnership with Georgia Tech Astrobiology and co-sponsored by Columbia Theological Seminary with support from Joel Cowan and from the Center of Theological Inquiry.
The symposium aimed to generate a multifaith discussion among scholars, clergy, community leaders, and students about science, spirituality, and the future of life on earth and elsewhere.
The following speakers addressed this theme from diverse disciplinary perspectives, including cognitive science, religious studies, ecology, ecotheology, ethics, and astrobiology.
► Amanda Stockton is an Assistant Professor in Chemistry and Biochemistry at Georgia Tech
► Arri Eisen is the Nat C. Robertson Teaching Professor in Science & Society and a Professor of Pedagogy in Biology, the Institute for the Liberal Arts, and the Center for Ethics at Emory University
► Barry Kornblau has been the rabbi of the Young Israel of Hollis Hills-Windsor Park, in Bayside, Queens, NY since 2003
► Cara Rock-Singer is a Visiting Lecturer at Cornell University, jointly appointed in Science and Technology Studies and Jewish Studies
► Dabney W. Dixon is a Professor of Chemistry and Coordinator of STEM Education Initiatives at Georgia State University
► David Addiss, MD, MPH is a senior scientist at the Task Force for Global Health, Adjunct Professor at Rollins School of Public Health, and Senior Faculty Fellow at the Emory Center for Ethics
► Deanna Ferree Womack is Assistant Professor of History of Religions and Multifaith relations at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology and the director of the Leadership and Multifaith Program
► Eri Saikawa is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Sciences, Emory College of Arts and Sciences and also jointly appointed at the Department of Environmental Health in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University
► Frank Rosenzweig is a Professor of Biology in the College of Sciences at Georgia Institute of Technology
► Frederick Simmons is the J. Houston Witherspoon Fellow in Theology and the Natural Sciences at the Center of Theological Inquiry
► Jacqueline Jones Royster is Dean of Georgia Tech’s Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts
► Jan Love, Dean of Candler School of Theology at Emory University
► Jennifer Hasler is a full professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology
► Dr. Mascaro holds a Ph.D. in biological anthropology from Emory University
► John Baross is Professor in Oceanography and the Astrobiology Program at the University of Washington
► Kenneth J. Knoespel is the McEver Professor of Engineering at the Liberal Arts at Georgia Tech
► Martha Grover is a Professor in the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Tech
► Michael Karlin is Assistant Professor of Psychology at Life University in the Positive Human Development and Social Change Department and the Associate Director of the Life University Center for Compassion
